Shows I’m Watching This Winter

by Sarah on January 10, 2013

Tonight was a very relaxed evening in our household. I caught up with an old friend on the phone, made a delicious hearty dinner and then caught up on my shows while Jay played video games.

Despite the fact that Jay and I don’t have cable, I still manage to keep up with my favorite shows with Hulu Plus, Netflix and the Internet. I could blame the lack of cable and satellite service (yes, I live behind PBS but can’t get the station… go figure) for not watching TV shows at night, but the reality is I can’t stay up till 11 p.m. each night and work out the next morning. I usually end up watching my shows the next evening right after dinner.

This winter, my list is a little bit longer than usual due to my recent obsession with Downton Abbey, a show I came to love on my plane ride to and from New Zealand.

Downton Abbey is a UK based show following an English household through the early 20th century. This season begins in the roaring 20’s, with the Great War finally over the Crawley’s do what they can to keep the big house going.

Glee is in its fourth season, but I still manage to love it. With most of the original cast away at college, writers bring in a few new kids to hold together the Glee Club. Don’t fear, our original favorites still pop in every few shows to remind us of the original reason we fell in love with Glee. I know many people have lost interest in Glee. I still love it despite Jay’s prediction that this is their last season. He thinks they have run out of things to write about.

Parenthood is an old favorite. I started watching this show when it started four years ago but haven’t been a very consistent viewer. With the wonders of modern technology I have always been able to catch up on every episode. I love this show because while it can hit a little too close to home, it is also so genuine and endearing. I love seeing how the Braverman clan deals with their most recent dilemma.

What shows are you currently following?

Oh and for those of you wondering, I didn’t make it to yoga this morning. BUT I am pretty proud of myself making it to the gym three days in a row this week!

I’ve also re-found my love of Parenthood this season (and have been successful in engrossing my husband as well)! Other current favorites are Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory.

We love How I Met Your Mother! We’ve been watching it on Netflix because we’re a season or two behind. I can’t wait to catch up to the current season. Modern Family and 1600 Penn also look really good. I’ll have to start watching them. Thanks for the suggestions!

You know I always recommend Big Bang Theory, I don’t know if they are streaming on Netflix yet and I’m watching The New Normal. I’m still into Glee on and off. We’re a season behind on Modern Family as well. :)
